What is Dinner Dating?
Dinner dating is the most traditional way singles get to know each other because it works. It’s not smart to go to a stranger’s home for a first date these days and movies don’t allow you to get to know someone.
A dinner date lets singles focus on one another, not a screen, friends, or other distractions (like cell phones!). Dinner dates are a time for romance and exploration of the deeper depths of the person you want to get to know. What do they like and dislike? Do you both have the same idea of what a good time is? What did he/she spend their summer doing and can you see yourself spending your precious vacation time with them in that way?
While you want to get to know this person, you’re also determining if he/she is someone you enjoy being around. It’s a good idea to wait for the second or third date to get to heavy topics like politics and religion. Why spend 30 minutes debating someone you wouldn’t have liked anyway? Once you decide you’re interested, you’ll be able to have more relaxed conversations about such topics. If you don’t like each other’s viewpoints, the decision to stop seeing one another will likely be less volatile in the end.
Some people compare dinner dates to interviews. If this helps, think of it as an interview for the best job in the world – an opportunity to build a life with your soul mate!
